Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 362.40 square kilometres and is part of the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve. It is popular among visitors and is treated as a gateway for the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve. Sajnekhali was once a popular place for viewing herons, which subsequently has shifted to other parts of Sunderbans Tiger Reserve. Numerous other birds can be seen here. It has a beautiful Mangrove Interpretation Centre, an estuarine crocodile pond, a turtle pond and a watchtower from where wildlife can be observed. Wild boar, spotted deer, water monitor lizards and Rhesus macaque can be easily seen here at dusk or dawn. Tourists staying at Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge or on the launches can avail the facility of viewing wildlife films in the evening. Several tourist accommodation facilities have come up in the villages near Sajne- khali. However, it is advisable to book them well in advance.
